18th Feb 2022

Whether you are an owner-operator, a fleet owner or drive for a trucking company, staying up to date on your industry is important. So, what do you do? Visit your local DOT Web site? Get started on reading the text of current trucking legislation? Well, you can do that – but if you want to actually enjoy your reading, you can check out some of the great blogs and web sites out there that address the trucking industry and truck driver needs.

Here are a few we like:

“The Voice of the American Trucker.” From custom rigs to regulations, Overdrive is a comprehensive one-stop Web site for truckers. The online magazine features a podcast and downloadable guides like “The Business Manual for Owner-Operators.” You can sign up for eNewsletters as well.

(The custom rigs section is great inspiration when you’re in the mood for some heavy-duty truck accessories!)

The Trucker’s Report

This site features message forums on a wide variety of trucker-focused issues. You can take part in conversations on thousands of topics – from figuring out CB radio issues to landing a new job. The site connects truckers to one another, which is a great way to read about actual “real trucker” matters.

Smart Trucking

The creators of this web site’s mission is to “provide truckers with the help and support needed to survive and thrive in the industry and excel in a professional driving career.”

You’ll find all the information you need to learn about becoming a truck driver, finding a school, finding a job and be successful in your career. One popular article identifies the seven things you need to know your first year as a truck driver.

Trucking Truth

This blog doesn’t hold back! Contributors tell it like it is from safety tips to trucker health and pretty much anything you can think of in between. Article topic examples include Family Matters, Advice and Opinions, Women in Trucking and so on. Founded by 15-year trucking vet, Brett Aquila, Trucking Truth is a great, timely site to drop in on for straight forward info on the trucking industry.

Women in Trucking

Women make up about 5% of truck drivers in America. And while any truck driver will benefit from the sites and blogs we mentioned above, there are many sites created by and specifically for women truck drivers.

The Women In Trucking Association is a non-profit organization with the mission to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments, and minimize obstacles faced by women working in the industry.

This site has everything – webinars, events, recognition, training resources and more.

Their up-to-date blog covers issues important to all truck drivers, with special focus on how they affect women in the industry.

This is a very short list of recommendations as there are hundreds of trucker resources out there. If you have a favorite site, forum or blog – please let us know!
